About

Welcome to RichardRadio a blog of teacher in Sussex. I finished my PCGE from Brighton University in June 2006

Purpose of the site

  • To contact others interested in the read / write web. Its a lonely task. Would be great to meet up with other people in the Brighton/Sussex area. Please drop me a line on any of the blog posts
  • To show collegues what I’m up to

Acheivements

  • I set up one of the first secondary school podcasts in the world in March 2005 at bradfm.com
  • At Littlehampton we rebranded the school news paper’s web site into a Blog called TheLil.com (not very active)
  • I started a podcast club at on of my placement schools St. Wilfrid’s in Crawley called TheSWerve.com but currently on (http://stwilfrids.com/SWerveFM/)

INTERESTS:

Moodle

My goal is to move past simple Moodle authoring to using what I call second leval functionality that need the interactive modules such as quiz, lesson and questionaire. These modules can make children’s learning more interactive and independent, plus they can improve assessment data and save the teacher time.

Blogging and Podcasting

I have kept blogging and podcasting confined to after school clubs up to now. I am looking for ways to see how we can incorporate these into the curriculum. But frankly I’m not sure yet how to do this without the help of the English department that have most to gain from getting the kids involved in writing and communicating and have much more curriculum time than ICT.

Primary education has been much more successful in its use of this publishing media. Currently my thinking is that Video Podcasting / vbloging might a more attractive proposition to the kids.

Creativity

Don’t forget the principle that the most powerful uses of the computer do not just allow us to do something quicker and more accuratly than before. The most powerful uses allow us to do things that we never imagined we would be able to do before.

The computer is a tool for creativity

Assessment

The reality of being a teacher in a UK school is that you must assess kids and report the data and this takes up a lot of teachers time. However I believe with a clearer idea of what we are trying to assess and maybe some better technology we can get on top of this duty which will actually give us the confidence to go out and get the kids to be more creative.
