DISCover PC Game Console

This is a gaming console which plays PC games on your tv. Apparantly there are more PC game titles out there than Playstation or xbox. So its a great idea and they even have the patents – can they really enforce something so broad?

Sail World My brother Matt seems to be kickin’ ass in Sydney. You can see a photo of him at the mast on the spinnaker hoist. They got a first yesterday to finish first overall. The skipper won his weight in Chardonnay – Thats how they do it in Aus!

CNET Wow these guys are in a different dimension. Viruses open machines and turn them into a Peer-to-peer spamming networks that rake in the cash. So opposing gangs send out viruses to clean their opponents viruses and patch the holes that were being utilised.

Amazing imagining a completely different life at a viral level. Seems almost as remote as a day in the life of an eColi virus.

An attacking and defending move at the same time. Skype must be making them think.

Skype have made me think. Afterall I used my first software Internet phone over 8 years ago, and the phone companies were worried about it then. They all turned up to a Voice over IP conference in London with people like Jeff Pulver and Ester Dyson. But the thing was not easy to install and get moving, sound cards didn’t come as standard then, and voice quality over modem calls wasn’t great.

So what has changed?

Well firstly its the broadband explosion that is enabling this technology and secondly Skype is intuitive and simple.

Its been a gripe of mine these last few virus filled years that the whole experience of obtaining & using Anti-virus software is so complicated. These guys (Bullguard) seem to have got the idea – although I haven’t tried their software yet. That will have to wait for another year or another guinea pig.

Bullguard are friendly with the guys from KaZaA and Skype – interesting.
